WEXCO "555" Barrels

High-Performance Bimetallic Injection and Extrusion Barrels

Primary Applications:

For Extrusion and Injection Molding using Low-to-Moderately Corrosive Resins

The “technical stuff”:

WEXCO "555" plasticating barrels feature a bore protection inlay consisting of a cobalt-nickel base alloy with high chromium and boron content. This inlay offers excellent corrosion resistance against hydrochloric and other acids. It has a dual-phase microstructure with complex borides that provide excellent wear resistance. Typical hardness range is Rockwell C 50-55.

Still using nitrided barrels? WEXCO "555" plasticating barrels provide more than 10 times the service life of nitrided barrels in corrosive atmospheres.

In addition to the corrosion protection of the barrel bore you get by selecting a WEXCO "555" inlay, we also can add corrosion protection to all those other barrel surfaces, such as on down-stream end faces and / or on barrel flanges, that cannot be protected by casting "555" inlay.  Typically, we protect these surfaces by applying Inconel 602 material, which is non-corrosive.

In severely corrosive processing environments, such as when processing Fluoropolymers, we recommend WEXCO "BO22" barrels (pronounced "bee-oh 22") as our best solution for highly corrosive processing applications.

To select the most cost-effective corrosion-resistant WEXCO barrel, be sure to discuss your particular application with our Technical Sales staff. Choosing the "wrong" barrel for your application may prove to be a costly affair. Let us help you make the "right" choice! We are here to serve you!
